I wanted to urgently contact you regarding something that really
hit home for me. I’ve been in the Photography industry for years
and have met some really great people. I talk to dozens of
photographers on a daily and weekly basis in forums and other places
online. A discussion came up that Professional Photographers are
closing their studios left and right. They are saying that no one
need Professional Photographers any more.

Can this really be? Is the digital camera industry moving too fast?
It seems like everyone has a camera now and can take pics. Even
wedding photographers are being replaced with camera phones and
consumer quality cameras. Are digital photographers really doomed?

Let’s be real for a second. Just because you own
a car, doesn’t mean you are a professional race car driver right?
Just because you own a basketball and a hoop doesn’t mean you can
shoot like Reggie Miller(Miller Time). Camera phones and compact
cameras are fun to shoot with, but I know my wife would have killed
me, if I had hired a friend to shoot our wedding photos with an iPhone.

What got me so upset was a forum post which set off an entire
discussion about how real photography is dead. One of the members
even posted,

“I wish I could get paid as a Photographer.”

Are you kidding me, with the internet reaching across the globe,
you can’t find one person that wants to pay you for photos???
Am I missing something here?

I agree, the industry is changing, but it’s not dead. If you think
outside of the box and look in more places you will find
photography jobs everywhere. There are jobs on Craigslist.com posted
every day and dozens of similar sites.

If you are serious about making money with your camera for a hobby
or a career the opportunities are endless. You can start making money
tomorrow with your digital camera if you wanted. Here are some great
